Recognition of Prior Learning and Micro-Credentials Seminar
On the 6th of March 2023, the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) in collaboration with the National Qualifications Center (NQC), organized a one-day seminar entitled “Recognition of Prior Learning and Micro-credentials” that was hosted by the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) in Al Ain. The purpose of the seminar was increasing the learning opportunities and keeping pace with the rapid changes in higher education by laying the foundation for building specialized standards in the areas of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Micro-Credentials (MCs).
The seminar presented an overview of the RPL requirements in the 2019 Standards for Institutional Licensure and Program Accreditation and encouraged HEIs to implement RPL and MCs in support for the national efforts to expand the utilization of RPL and MCs after taking the proper quality assurance measures.
Prof. Ghaleb Alhadrami Albreiki, Vice Chancellor of the UAEU, and Prof. Mohamed Yousif Baniyas, Director of the CAA, inaugurated the seminar and welcomed the attendees. The seminar included several local and international speakers specialized in the areas of RPL and MC and attracted nearly 160 participants representing the HEIs in the country and their quality assurance officers, in addition to representatives from ADEK, KHDA and NQC awarding bodies.
